Vanguard Video’s ‘V.265’ Software Codec Supports H.265/HEVC Main 10 Profile

The V.265 codec can cut bandwidth use by 50 percent compared to the current H.264 standard

Vanguard Video, a producer of broadcast-quality video-compression technology, said its V.265 professional-level software codec now supports the H.265 “high-efficiency video coding” Main10 profile, which provides a 10-bit 4:2:0 codec for professional solutions.
The V.265 software codec, which is based on the new H.265/HEVC International Standard, can deliver up to a 50-percent reduction in bandwidth and improved video quality when compared to the bandwidth-needs and video-quality produced under the existing H.264 standard, Vanguard said. In addition, the V.265 already supports the H.265/HEVC Main profile for 8-bit 4:2:0 video, the company said.
In January, Vanguard Video launched a professional H.265/HEVC encoder that supports the HEVC Main profile for 8-bit 4:2:0 video, the company said. In addition, Vanguard released support for the Main 10 profile for 10-bit 4:2:0 video in a real-time software H.265/HEVC codec, the firm said.
The V.265 codec software-development kit provides a set of features to support original-equipment manufacturers in a broad range of industries, including broadcast, Internet-video distribution, mobile live and offline streaming and video telephony and telepresence, Vanguard said.
The V.265 codec provides real-time performance at professional-levels of quality, the company said. In addition, the V.265 codec is also configurable to generate the high-quality video needed by studios and content-distribution companies, the firm said.
