NEWARK, N.J .— For the past several years, the Michigan State University Spartans football program has utilized Panasonic P2 HD camcorders and remote HD cameras to capture video for coaching analysis.
The program recently purchased two AW-HE50S Full HD pan/tilt/zoom cameras and an AW-HE870 remote HD camera with AW-RP655 remote controls. The cameras record HD video out to Panasonic AG-HMR10 handheld AVCCAM HD recorder/players, and the team utilizes XOS Digital’s Thunder Football HD for video editing and game planning.
MSU Football’s Director of Technology Matt Harper said, for recording games, he uses the HPX370/HMR10 combo for the sideline high angle, and an HPX300/HMR10 combo for the end zone high angle. The HPX170 is utilized for ground level capture. The HE50Ss are mounted to the corner of the ceiling and the walls in the indoor practice facility on each 40-yard line to get a sideline angle.
The HE870 is mounted on a 40-foot pole next to the outdoor turf practice field. The AW-RP655 controller, on a cart with a monitor, is plugged in at the bottom of the pole. During offense and defense practices, the HPX370/HPX300s are used with HMR10s to shoot video from the sidelines and end zones.
The AG-HPX370 is a second-generation, interchangeable lens camcorder with 10-bit, 4:2:2, independent-frame full 1920 x 1080 resolution AVC-Intra recording. The HPX370 incorporates newly-developed 1/3”, full-HD 2.2 megapixel U.L.T. (Ultra Luminance Technology) 3-MOS imagers and a 20-bit Digital Signal Processor to acquire native 1920 x 1080 resolution images. The U.L.T. sensors are measured at F10. The same levels of sensitivity and image production that characterize the interlace mode are now possible in progressive mode courtesy of Progressive Advanced Processing, a 3D adaptive processing technology.
The AW-HE50S with HD/SD-SDI and component outputs plus genlock combines image quality, smooth pan/tilt/zoom operation and easy integration for HD and SD production and video communications. The camera utilizes full HD MOS sensors (effective resolution 1920 x1080), with Panasonic’s Dynamic Range Stretch technology and Hybrid 2D/3D Noise Reduction processing, to produce HD video with up to 850 lines of horizontal resolution in a range of conditions. It is equipped with both IP and RS-422 serial control interfaces built-in.
This AW-HE870 delivers 2/3″ quality acquisition for a range of applications. This HD convertible camera supports 1080i/720p HD and 480i SD capture.
