NextVR is the company behind NBA’s recently announced decision to release one game per week in VR. It also produces Notre Dame’s football games in virtual reality.
The Creators Project speaks to NextVR CEO Dave Cole about the proprietary system that allows them to create 360-degree courtside footage without stitching.
“It’s like draping a virtual world with actual video,” says Cole “That process calibrates the images from the different cameras in the constellation that make it the full 360, [holding] the world together and eliminating the need to stitch, which is extremely critical [because] stitching is a destructive process to the actual geometry of the captured image.”
