The NBA has announced that it will be releasing one game per week in VR for the 2016-2017 season.
The basketball league has teamed up with NextVR to produce the experience, which will offer viewers courtside seats to the games. The VR games will be available to all subscribers of NBA’s League Pass and will initially be available to view via Samsung Gear VR headsets, and expected to roll out to other devices soon.
“We needed to make a bigger commitment if we were going to drive innovation forward,” said Jeff Marsilio, the NBA’s VP of global media distribution, to Advertising Age. “We can’t just be scattershot experimenting anymore.”
