Musician Brian Eno has released a visual companion to his song “The Ship”: a website with a generative short film that utilizes a bespoke artificial intelligence program developed by the Dentsu Lab Tokyo to explore various historical photographic images and real time news feeds that “compose a collective photographic memory of humankind.”
The film, available at theship.ai, uses A.I. to juxtapose real-time news tweets with royalty-free images from around the web, generating a discussion on how historical meaning is produced.
“Humankind seems to teeter between hubris and paranoia: the hubris of our ever-growing power contrasts with the paranoia that we’re permanently and increasingly under threat,” says Eno.
