Nielsen has released its social media ratings for the 2015-2016 TV season. For the third year in a row, The Walking Dead was the most-talked-about show on Twitter, generating an average of 435,000 tweets per episode. This was followed by Empire at number 2 and Game of Thrones at number 3. Meanwhile Netflix shows like To Catch a Murderer and Fuller House–though not appointment viewing like the linear televisions shows–made their own splash with number of tweets generated.
The Grammy Awards generated 7.6 million tweets, coming in as the top TV special, followed closely by the Oscars (7.2 million tweets).
Unsurprisingly, the Super Bowl was Twitter’s top sports event, generating 16.9 million tweets and creating the TV season’s most-used hashtag (#SB50).
