Will ‘The Martian VR Experience’ Succeed at Commercializing Virtual Reality?

Debuting at CES this week, 20th Century Fox’s The Martian VR Experience takes its cues from the Ridley Scott film but offers an immersive experience all its own. The 20-30 minute experience strands users on the red planet and allows them to explore freely while also giving them tasks in order to survive.

“In order for [VR] to be real, it needs to be commercialized,” Mike Dunn, president of Fox Home Entertainment, tells The Hollywood Reporter. “We’re trying to commercialize this medium so it’s around for around 25 years, with a real VR experience that people will want to own and relive over and over again.”
