Netflix has made the first episode of its crime docuseries Making a Murderer available for free on YouTube. The 10-part series follows the bizarre case of Steven Avery who spent 18 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit. Two years after being exonerated and released, however, Avery found himself accused of murder.

Writes The Drum of Netflix's decision, "It’s a different tact to the tried-and-tested marketing Netflix has previously used, accentuating the growing pressure on the service to recruit customers amid more competition."
