In this issue’s Buyer’s Guide we focus on a range of applications for video production switchers.
The Apollo portable HD multicamera recorder/switcher can simultaneously record up to four HD video signals, along with a fifth channel of either a live-switch between the four or a quad-split reference view. Apollo can also function as a four-channel live switcher while simultaneously recording the four isolated HD video signals. Apollo is the size of a small tablet and is able to run for hours on a camcorder battery. With the Apollo Media Manager App, recordings can be exported as separate Apple ProRes files or as a single multicamera QuickTime file that drops directly into the timeline of supporting NLEs such as Final Cut Pro X. Apollo is scheduled for release in December 2015 for an MSRP of $3,995.
RUSHWORKS’ VDESK is much more than a video switcher. It’s a fully integrated PTZ production system that includes three user interfaces that let you work the way you want, when you want. The real power of the system is the extensive integration of PTZ cameras with unlimited presets, making it possible for one person to produce a multicamera show with no camera operators required. Record and stream meetings, services, sporting events, concerts and presentations using the CLASSIC, PRODUCER and TalkingPoints interfaces. The switcher supports up to 12 inputs, with 14 video transitions, more than a dozen PiP effects, and chromakey for virtual sets. Overlay graphics include a bug, two independent crawls and animated snipes. Touch a screen icon and take the shot, with linked lower-third graphics.
