New York Times’ VR Bet Pays Off

The recent collaboration between The New York Times, Google and sponsors MINI and GE created a “watershed moment” for virtual reality. A million free Google Cardboard headsets were distributed, and the NYT VR app was dowloaded more times than any other Times app.

“We began in a really big way, building an audience that is actually hungry for this kind of content,” New York Times Magazine editor Jake Silverstein tells Advertising Age.
