It’s 2015, folks! Nobody’s satisfied watching people walk down the red carpet before an awards show on a flat 16:9 screen. What if you want to see a famous person or their outfit from a different angle? MTV’s got it covered. Karen Fratte reports in Adweek, “MTV partnered with virtual reality studio IM360 for the VMA red carpet.”
The piece goes on to explain, “Through their All Access Live platform, viewers can not only just stream the red carpet on Sunday night, but if they’re on a desktop they can scroll around the place. By downloading the IM360 app, viewers can experience it on mobile.”
The coverage added an interactive element too. Those streaming the event were also able to weigh in on MTV News’s broadcast. MTV partnered with gaming platform Playbuzz to allow users to swipe right and left to like and dislike MTV News updates, red carpet interviews, and whats “hot or not”.
