Streaming Services Might Soon be Regulated Like Television Networks

The Drum recently reported that the FCC "is expected to vote on the proposal in October in a move that would bring streaming video firms such as Amazon, Apple and Google under the same regulations as cable and satellite TV firms." It elaborates, "The plan would only apply to streaming companies known as internet "linear" programming providers that have several channels offering streaming of pre-scheduled shows like local news and live sports. This means the proposal would not apply to on-demand streaming services, such as Netflix, Hulu or YouTube because they do not show any pre-scheduled programs."

Reagardless, this is a development the entire industry will be watching closely.
