Big Data Turns Broadway Into an Interactive Art Project

Moritz Stefaner and Lev Manovich’s “On Broadway” takes an enormous amount of social media data—from Instagram, Twitter, FourSquare, Google Street View and more—and turns it into an interactive thumbnail of the famed New York City street.

Manovich tells Fast Company‘s Co.Design, “We wanted to avoid standard techniques like numbers, graphs, or maps [and create] a visually rich image-centric interface with no maps and where numbers only play a secondary role.”

The project is currently on-view at the New York Public Library and also available to see online here. Read the full story here.
