Harmonic Supports Televisa’s Multiscreen Service Infrastructure

Televisa, the largest media company in the Spanish-speaking world, is using Mexico and Latin America’s first large-scale multiscreen system to support new video service platforms. Built on the Harmonic ProMedia suite of multiscreen production and preparation applications and Harmonic MediaGrid shared storage system, the multiscreen service infrastructure deployed at Televisa’s Mexico City facility supports its TV Everywhere service and VEO, the company’s new subscription VOD (SVOD) and transactional VOD (TVOD) service. The comprehensive multiformat video processing and storage technology from Harmonic allows Televisa to optimize OTT video service delivery for live linear feeds and VOD and enables the company to ensure high-quality video output and a rich user experience.

The Harmonic solution includes the software, architecture and support necessary to launch competitive new multiscreen services smoothly and address all target devices effectively. Leveraging this all-IP video distribution model, Televisa has been able to respond very quickly to high consumer demand for multiscreen offerings such as VOD and TV Everywhere services. What’s more, with completion of this groundbreaking project, the company significantly extended its ability to distribute high-value live events ranging from concerts to premier sports events.

Harmonic ProMedia Package multiscreen stream packager

The end-to-end multiscreen video delivery workflow at Televisa relies on the Harmonic ProMedia Live real-time multiscreen transcoder and ProMedia Package multiscreen stream packager to perform live transcoding and packaging. The ProMedia Carbon file-based transcoder and WFS file-based workflow engine perform file transcoding, and the ProMedia Origin streaming video server facilitates streaming in formats required by all major devices and mobile operating systems. Optimized for media-centric applications, the Harmonic MediaGrid shared storage system provides fast, reliable central storage in support of all these applications.

As Televisa continues its move into the dynamic multiscreen realm, the flexibility of the Harmonic systems will allow the company to modify its multiscreen workflow in accordance with changing technical and business demands.
