Three River Telco Upgrades With A Hybrid QAM/IP Approach

Three River Telco, a small cooperative serving Northern Nebraska for over 100 years, has upgraded its infrastructure of legacy MPEG-2 set top boxes with a Hybrid CATV solution from Entone to power its Pay TV service.

Based in Lynch, Nebraska, Three River now offers subscribers voice, video, and broadband services over their state-of-the-art hybrid fiber-coax (HFC) network.

"To compete for consumers' dollars, we need to give them what they want, a seamless user experience that makes all video content available anywhere, at any time, on any device," said Neil Classen, General Manager of Three River Telco, in a statement.  "By replacing our legacy MPEG-2 boxes with Entone's hybrid CATV solution, we can take advantage of our existing network and begin leveraging MPEG-4 compression which is allowing us to free up precious bandwidth that is required to deliver more compelling services. This puts us in a better position to support our connected consumers."

With an integrated DOCSIS 3.0 modem and QAM tuner options, Entone's Hybrid CATV set top box solution supports content from both legacy cable and IP networks. Entone's Hybrid CATV "gateway" solution allows service operators to implement a cost-effective strategy for delivering a seamless user experience over existing networks today, while also providing a solid foundation for delivering Hybrid TV and bring-your-own-device (BYOD) services in the future.

"More and more forward-looking cable operators like Three River are realizing that an all-IP environment provides long term benefits for both operator and consumer alike," said Bill Hughes, Senior Product Manager at Entone. "We are pleased to be partnering with Power and Tel on this project and look forward to supporting them as they help Three River rollout new IP services."

Entone offers a range of hybrid CATV devices that are pre-integrated with market leading middleware and digital rights management (DRM) systems to enable progressive operators to quickly deploy Hybrid TV services.

Three River Telco can trace its history as far back as 1898 to a small switchboard located at Alexander's drug store in Lynch, Nebraska. In 2013, the Telco completed a five-year FTTH build to all its customers, enabling it to offer a variety of services (up to 100 MB of bandwidth), including traditional phone service, key systems, home and business networking, computer sales and repair, video (IPTV), broadband, and security systems.
