
Parasite director Bong Joon-ho and star Choi Woo-shik break down the opening scene of their dark comedy thriller, explaining everything from the art direction to the symbolism of the character’s actions.
“[It’s] something very natural to talk about the rich and poor in this era, in this age,” says Bong about opening the film with his main character’s house in a poor neighborhood. “In everyday life we encounter who is rich, who is poor, and why… Almost every day. It’s quite natural to create that kind of story as a contemporary filmmaker.”
