Los Angeles, CA (October 10, 2006) – VICON, developer of Academy Award®-winning motion capture technology and a division of OMG plc, Oxford Metrics Group, announced that Sydney digital production company Animal Logic, has adopted a VICON MX40 system for real-time facial, hand and full-body capture. Animal Logic is already innovating with the capabilities of VICON MX to create weekly episodes of a primetime talk show in which a virtual host, driven by real-time performance data, interviews and is viewed by guests and the audience live in the studio.

The show, titled “David Tench Tonight,” airs on Australian television channel Network Ten. Clips of the program, with the animated David Tench character in live dialogue with such personalities as tennis star Patrick Rafter and actress Toni Collette, can also be seen on

Animal Logic selected VICON MX based on the system‘s proven capabilities to produce clean data for facial motion. Animal Logic also chose VICON because of the company‘s ability to collaborate closely with local support to help them meet the specific real-time demands and requirements for “David Tench.”

“The VICON MX40 system allows Animal Logic to capture fine facial details as well as body movements in real time,” commented Brian Kranz, Digital Supervisor, Animal Logic. “VICON MX gives us the breadth of capability to capture a total performance – hands, face and body – simultaneously using the same cameras and hardware in a single hardware specification. We can also use this same VICON system to meet our many other motion capture needs for film, television or animation.”

“VICON MX is designed for total performance capture, and for making motion capture a process that is truly real time and integral to production,” said Alex Muir, Asia Pacific Sales, Vicon. “Animal Logic is constantly innovating with great projects in television, commercial and feature film and it‘s been a lot of fun working with the company to support the creative vision and technical breakthroughs of this show.”

Installed at major visual effects and motion capture service studios around the world, VICON MX offers new levels of precision, performance and production readiness for motion capture within the entertainment field. VICON MX cameras feature CMOS sensors, on-board intelligent image processing and revolutionary 10-bit grayscale processing.
