Tool is pleased to announce the signing of Evan Silver, the talent behind some of MTV's most talked-about and forward-thinking campaigns, promos and long-form projects. Silver directed the controversial 3:00 US launch video for the teen show

Skins

; wrote and directed a comprehensive, multi-platform campaign promoting the network's

See You Sunday

block; and filmed more than 30 stories of inspiring Latinos across the US for

tr3s

. Additional promos include spots for the 2010 MTV Movie Awards,

America's Best Dance Crew

, and

The Buried Life

. In 2010, the UN screened his documentary,

Generation Youth

- the story of inspirational kids breaking stereotypes and taboos to live meaningful lives - to a global audience at the Social Good Summit.

Silver will apply his cinematic storytelling style to commercial production for the first time at Tool, taking advantage of the studio's renowned abilities to develop young talent.

EP Brian Latt noted, "He's both a talented and versatile director with experience at MTV and on agency driven campaigns.

Skins

is very visual, while his other projects run the gamut from funny to edgy to emotional. With Tool, we look forward to developing his talent to focus on commercial opportunities."

"I've been watching Tool for a while, and I was just blown away by the stuff they were coming up, especially in the interactive space, from the

Cold War Kids project

to the

Touching Stories

iPad app," gushed Silver. "They're ahead of the game, creating the industry's new direction, rather than following everyone else. That starts with the talent, which is just incredible, with a solid grasp of filmmaking, an enviable ability to tell stories, and an innovative grasp of technology, and I'm really thrilled to join them. And while they have some of the most respected industry veterans around, Tool really cares about building young directors, and they have the agency connections and creatives in place that will provide exactly what need as I build my career and try to work in mediums that weren't out there just a couple years ago."

Silver refined his directing skills for comedy and performance at MTV while working alongside the likes of Jack Black, Michael Cera, Sarah Silverman, Aziz Ansari, Janet Jackson, Kristen Bell, Jennifer Lopez, Jeremy Renner, Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg, Justin Bieber and Alicia Keys.

His many advertising and film honors include an Emmy nomination and Gracie, GLAAD, Imagine, Andy, Creativity, Telly, BDA and Promax Awards, in addition to a spot in

Shoot Magazine's

New Director's Showcase.

Prior to joining Tool in 2011, Silver spent several years at the fast-paced on-air promo departments at The Sundance Channel and MTV. He launched his career as an art director and writer at some of New York's top creative shops, experimenting in all forms of filmmaking and media.
