A Modern UI and New Desktop Experience Aim to Improve Creative Flow and Collaboration for Artists and Reviewers

Autodesk today announced Shotgun 8, the latest release of its cloud-based review and production tracking software. In a world of growing production demands, tight deadlines, and remote collaboration, creative teams have to manage workload and iterate quickly to produce the awe-inspiring creative seen in today’s top films, TV shows, and games. Shotgun 8 aims to improve the artist and reviewer experience with updates that reduce interruptions to creative flow and facilitate a rich feedback loop.

This update includes the first public version of Shotgun Create, a new part of Shotgun geared specifically towards the needs of right brain thinkers at studios. As a cloud-connected desktop experience, Shotgun Create makes it easier for artists and reviewers to see tasks which demand their attention while providing a collaborative environment to review media and exchange feedback quickly and precisely. Linked to the same up-to-date information stored in Shotgun, artists are able to work with high-resolution, locally stored shots in addition to media streamed from the cloud. Also included in this first version of Shotgun Create are built-in annotation tools, new prioritized task views, a centralized view of task history, and tighter integration with creative tools.

Shotgun 8 also introduces a modernized user interface to Shotgun on the web, improving clarity and consistency. For individuals who work predominantly in a dark environment, this release also makes it easier to switch between light and dark themes, with a new button right in the header.

“Shotgun 8 is our first step towards a whole new generation of tools designed and built specifically for artists. We’ve learned that artists don’t want to navigate through the same tools producers use, so this update introduces a separate view for artists that still connects them to the production team,” said Don Parker, VP & GM, Shotgun, Autodesk. “In a real way, this is the beginning of Shotgun for artists. We’re excited about this step and are looking forward to collaborating with our clients to connect the creative side of the studio to the production side, so they can do their best work as a unified team.”

Pricing and Availability

Shotgun 8 is available today. Shotgun pricing starts at $30 per account/per month with “Awesome” support, or $50 per account/per month with “Super Awesome” support. Request a free trial at: https://www.shotgunsoftware.com/signup/.
