Roundabout Chooses Film Master for Colour Grading Within Avid Environment

Stockholm, Sweden- 9 July, 2007 – Digital Vision, a leading developer of advanced digital media applications for film and video, announced that Los Angeles-based Roundabout Entertainment has purchased a Nucoda Film Master system to further expand its suite of post-production services. By adding Digital Vision‘s resolution-independent, DI/grading and finishing system with integrated digital video noise reduction, Roundabout now offers its television and film clients a full suite of audio, video, final colour, conform, and restoration services.

Roundabout President Deborah Willard said, “Over the past several years we‘ve expanded our video department to address a growing demand for editing, online, and final finishing by our television and feature film clients. Adding high-end colour grading and video noise reduction capabilities is the next logical progression for us, and we went with the best-in-class system–the Film Master.”

Roundabout‘s Film Master is housed in a dedicated grading suite, with plans to implement it on the facility‘s SAN alongside existing Avid Symphony Nitris systems in the coming weeks to facilitate media sharing. The Film Master‘s ability to grade MXF and Avid DNxHD media natively without transcoding offers clients an efficient workflow that shaves time and cost off the final colour process.

Stephen Guillen, Roundabout‘s senior colourist/editor, said, “The Film Master gives us the tools to do true high-end, final colour grading, and the fact that it works seamlessly with Avid media made it absolutely the best choice for us.” Guillen recently graded the independent feature Kiss the Bride, starring Tori Spelling, on the Film Master. “I was blown away by what the system can do. In one scene the main character‘s lighting changed drastically, and I had to key her face and background to get the look right. The key of her face was four layers deep, and because Film Master handles infinite layers so brilliantly, I could show the director progress immediately. The system‘s so responsive, we were able to create and conform scenes amazingly fast to match the looks he had designed in production.”

Digital Vision president and COO, Simon Cuff, said, “We‘re getting an amazing response to the Film Master from facilities with an established Avid workflow looking to add high-end grading to their mix of services. For Roundabout, Film Master is helping the company take their business to a new level. We‘re pleased to provide them with the tools they need to capture the new opportunities they can now address.”
