Las Vegas, NV (April 13, 2008) â€“ Panasonic, the leading brand by which Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. is best known, will deliver the largest-ever supply of digital electrical technologies as a TOP* sponsor for The Games of the 29th Olympiad to be held in Beijing, China in August 2008. The company will also expand its marketing activities globally.
Beijing 2008 will be the first time in history that the Olympic international broadcasting signal will be produced entirely in the High Definition (HD) format (1080/50i), making Beijing the “First HD Olympic Games.” As the TOP sponsor for the Olympic Games in the category of Video and Audio Equipment, Panasonic, through cooperation with The International Olympic Committee (IOC), The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG), and The Beijing Olympic Broadcasting Co., Ltd. (BOB), is providing a full line-up of HD equipment for the operation of The Games, seeking to contribute to the realization of a true “HD Olympic Games” and to share the passion of the Olympic Games throughout the world.
Panasonic will be providing digital broadcasting equipment including the Panasonic P2 HD series, based on solid-state P2 memory recording, as well as studio-use Digital VCRs, system cameras and TV monitors to The International Broadcasting Center (IBC) and other broadcasters as the official broadcasting equipment for Beijing 2008. Panasonic supplied broadcasting equipment and maintenance support to the host broadcaster during Barcelona â€™92, Atlanta â€™96, Nagano â€™98, Sydney 2000, Salt Lake City 2002, Athens 2004 and Torino 2006. This year marks the 8th Olympiad for which Panasonic has provided equipment in the official recording format for the Games.
The total number of digital electronic devices to be delivered to all 37 venues in Beijing and the seven other cities holding Olympic events is the largest ever and is 1.7 times greater in scale than the equipment delivered for the Athens Olympic Games. Panasonic will support the operation of The Games by providing Astrovision spectacular large screen display systems, RAMSA series professional audio systems, large-screen HDTVâ€™s including VIERA Plasma TVs and DIGA DVD recorders. Panasonicâ€™s Astrovision will be used in conjunction with RAMSA in the opening and closing ceremonies to be held at the National Stadium, commonly known as the Bird’s Nest, to deliver the highest quality video and sound to every corner of the stadium. Panasonic will also be supporting a safe and secure Olympic operation for athletes and spectators through the provision of a high picture quality and high sensitivity surveillance camera systems throughout the city of Beijing.
Based on the concept of “Sharing the Passion,” it is Panasonicâ€™s aim that the passion of the world’s top athletes, and the excitement and inspiration of their performances be felt not only in the Olympic venues, but also delivered to people in their homes all over the world thorough Panasonic digital video and audio technologies.
Also, as the TOP sponsor in the category of Video and Audio Equipment, Panasonic plans to launch Olympic-themed marketing activities worldwide. Panasonic intends to expand local promotion campaigns and partnership with national teams for Beijing 2008. On its Olympic Website, Panasonic will start a global video pod cast campaign called â€œWorld Wide Waveâ€? through which visitors can join the wave in Beijingâ€™s National Stadium by uploading an original video to the web for sharing with worldwide spectators.
* TOP stands for “The Olympic Partner.” This is the highest level of Olympic sponsorship. Panasonic is the only Japanese company participating in the TOP program.
