LOS ANGELES – Nominees for the International Documentary Association’s (IDA) first Alan Ett Music Documentary Award have been announced. The winner will be announced at the 23rd Annual IDA Distinguished Documentary Achievement Awards Gala Benefit on December 7, 2007, at the Directors Guild of America Theatre in Los Angeles.
“Music influences how we experience and interpret a story, says IDA President diane estelle Vicari. “Along with the auditory and visual elements, music contributes to the overall meaning of a film. We are proud to be recognizing five films that incorporate this medium in such a memorable way.
The five nominated films are: 4, CHOPS, NOTE BY NOTE: THE MAKING OF STEINWAY L1037, WAR/DANCE and WE ARE TOGETHER (THINA SIMUNYE).
The Alan Ett Music Documentary Award will be presented to the filmmaker whose documentary film illustrates exemplary creativity use of music. The award selection process began with peer-group juries who viewed all submissions to select nominees for final review by a blue-ribbon panel. The award recipient will receive a cash prize of $5,000.
