For Mirror’s Eric (“EBâ€?) Barrett, managing and guiding the X-Dance Action Sports Film Festival over its decade-plus years of growth has been a labor of love, uniting his two great passions — extreme sports and film. “I have been involved with X-Dance from its start because I love action sports and am an athlete myself. As the owner of a production company, I am also committed to great filmmaking. Over the course of 11 years, X-Dance has single-handedly revolutionized this genre into one that showcases films with substance. The films now are story-driven, and these filmmakers are better storytellers because of X-Dance and what our festival has given the community. We are psyched for this year’s festival, which promises once again to be a great one.â€?
X-Dance 2011 will bring together the world’s top action sports filmmakers, iconic athletes and enthusiasts in order to celebrate action sports culture: Saturday January 22 through Tuesday January 25th in both Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah. This year’s line-up features incredible films starring the likes of madman skier Tanner Hall, soul surfer Rob Machado, world record breaking free skier Grete Eliassen, snowboard maverick Jeremy Jones, kayaking superstar Rush Sturges, and MotoX madman Robbie Maddison. With roots in the action sports world, as well as the mainstream entertainment industry, no event on earth harnesses the creative energy of adrenaline culture like the X-Dance Action Sports Film Festival. Mirror Films’ Doug Walker, a Director/Editor, is excited about his short doc “Rhag being selected for Slamdance. “I’m very proud of this film because it is a story about an artist and his life, explains Walker. “Having worked for a long time in advertising, this gave me an opportunity to do something that was completely fresh and new, and instinctive really. I shot it and cut it; and knew that it was done. I let the camera have a life of its own, like painting on a canvas. I’m excited and honored that Slamdance selected the film for this year’s festival.
About “Rhag (a synopsis):
“Rhag is an insight into what life looks and feels like. In this short documentary, you will see how his life plays itself out, in the so-called real world, in his choosing to stay open and allowing creativity to flow through him. You will see the cost, the pay-off and why. His prolific body of art and mixed musical compositions tapes that number in the thousands, is truly astounding. His absolute devotion and appreciation for the beauty in life. These are all a part of the enormous gift that Roy Henry (Alexander) Gover has left us. He did it with an open heart. This documentary is to recognize the shear brilliance of a creative master, the Bay Area artist who called himself RHAG. “Rhag is a production of Corduroy Films. Credits include Producer Regina O’Connell and David Della Santa at Volume for Music. For more info, go to:

About Director Doug Walker:
Doug Walker is a true Los Angeles native. Growing up in a family with strong ties to the film business, Walker spent the better part of his childhood in and around film sets. At the age of 11, he fell into acting where he thrived for six years, spending more time in casting sessions than at school. At 17, he was ready for a change and found it with the help of legendary editor Steve McCoy who brought him into the fold at Filmcore Editorial where he discovered his natural talent for film editing. An accomplished editor for 19 years, his work has garnered several Clios and a Cannes Lion award. Since launching as a Director with Mirror Films in 2007, he has crafted a consistent body of work that is distinctive and organic. His documentary work tells stories in a poignant and memorable way, a quality that resonates in his commercial work as well. His spots for Nike, U.S. Cellular, and University of North Carolina all reveal an honesty and soulfulness rarely seen in commercials. Doug’s recent documentary “Rhagâ€? was selected as one of four stand-out films chosen for the Special Screenings program at the 2011 Slamdance Film Festival. The film chronicles the life of the brilliant painter and experimental composer Roy Henry Alexander Grover. His next documentary entitled “Lost & Foundâ€? will take the viewer on a journey to uncover the stories of some of the world’s most famous surfers in history.
