Roberto Serrini of New York-based jumP edits and directs an electro funk-soul infused music video for singer Ekayani and DJ The Tom Glide Space's single, Here's The Light. The video opens on a psychedelic radial blur leading to the center, which is focused on the lead singer. The mesmerizing voice of the woman provides music for the urban street performers featured in several sets of the video. The dancing snippets are pieced together to construct purposely disjointed, new age break-dancing performances. From jumP Editor/Director Roberto Serrini:
Basically, the artist had some live footage of her singing at local venues. Since the footage wasn't as cinematic as I perhaps wanted it to be, I had to figure out a way to incorporate it into a video with something a little more engaging. As I live and work in NYC, I am constantly bombarded by influences such as billboards, posters, street performers, store fronts, anything and everything. I decided to make the video have an urban vibe by using local street performers in their local settings. Using some basic After Effects magic I was able to achieve an interesting effect placing video of the artist in posters and billboards around the City. Beyond that, I used the concept of "Light" which is a major factor in the track, to influence any other aspect of the film, from the color correct to any transitions between cuts. I think it's important to have a common base for your creation, so that even your wildest creative facets are grounded by the same concept.
