August 9, 2007 (Los Angeles, CA) The HPA Awards Committee is accepting entries for the HPA Engineering Excellence Awards, which showcase and reward inventors, manufacturers, vendors and/or peer post production companies for outstanding product or technology application offerings. The Engineering Excellence Awards are open to any individual, group of individuals or entity offering a submitted entry to the post industry at large. The entry deadline for all submissions is August 22nd, 2007.

The Engineering Awards include products or processes, but most importantly must represent a step forward for its industry beneficiaries. The product or process must be available to post production industry peers, so internal proprietary workflows and processes are not eligible. The submission must be available on the market before the submission deadline. They can consist of hardware, software, a combination of both and/or a technological development or post production process.

The Second Annual HPA Awards will take place on the evening of Thursday November 1st 2007, at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. The HPA Awards recognize the outstanding contributions of post production professionals working behind the scenes in a number of categories, including color grading/DI, audio, visual effects compositing, and editorial for motion pictures, television, and commercials.

Phil Mendelson, Sub-Committee chair for the Engineering Excellence Award commented, “Innovation and necessity have driven the creative engineering pathway in our industry from the beginning. The Engineering Excellence Award was created to honor innovations that have advanced post production and to shine a light on the individuals and companies that have invested time, money, brain power and effort to bring them to market. Last year, during the inaugural voyage of the HPA Awards and the Engineering Excellence Awards, it was gratifying to see so many great entrants. We are all very enthusiastic about the upcoming submissions.”

The HPA Awards Committee invites companies, individuals and organizations to participate in the Engineering Excellence Awards as well as the HPA Awards. “We believe that these awards illustrate the important contributions that key players in our industry make to the entertainment industry,” noted Mendelson.

In addition to the Engineering Excellence Award, the HPA Awards will honor other important post production categories including: Outstanding Color grading using a DI process for a feature film, Outstanding Color Grading for a Television Program, Outstanding Color Grading for a Commercial, Outstanding Editing for a Feature Film, Outstanding Editing for a Television Program, Outstanding Editing for a Commercial, Outstanding Audio Post Production for a Television Program, Outstanding Audio Post Production for a Commercial, Outstanding Compositing for a Feature Film, Outstanding Compositing for a Television Program, and Outstanding Compositing for a Commercial.
