LOS ANGELES, CA
Director Patrick Kiely, perhaps best known for his award-winning music video work while on the roster of A Band Apart and Propaganda Films, both in Los Angeles, and for his spot work via his own company LOGIC, Los Angeles, has teamed with directors Adam Kerscher and Allan Vajda to form A3
,a new boutique production company that will bring expertise directing advertising, network promotion/branding and new media projects of all budgets to the creative marketplace.
The company has also secured representation with Yvette Lubinsky of Yvette Represents handling West Coast duties, and Elyse Emmer of The Emmer Group on the East Coast. In addition, A3 is about to begin work on its first assignment -- a co-branded spot for Hallmark Channel and Cool-Whip helmed by Kiely. These are challenging yet exciting times to launch a production company, said Kiely. Working at several large production companies taught me that it’s hard to be all things to all clients. With A3 we have three distinct directors that work in specific niches (fashion, beauty, auto, dramatic visuals, real people, kids and more) and have vast experience producing great work within budgets of all sizes. Clients today are looking for small, nimble companies that they can partner with creatively and collectively. Patrick Kiely: A native of Southern California, Kiely made his first film at the age of 17. Film school followed, and he soon leaped into production, producing commercials for the likes of Saturn and American Express. In 1997 he opened his own shop, LOGIC, whose first project, the music video for the Backstreet Boys Quit Playing Games With My Heart, put it on the map and paved the way to Kiely’s own directorial debut; Sweetboxs Say Captain, Say What (Warner Records Germany). Over the next three years he would direct over 50 music videos. In 1999 Kiely signed with A Band Apart, followed by Propaganda in 2001. His eye for striking visuals and memorable characters resulted in such music videos as Smile Empty Soul Bottom of a Bottle, voted top rock video on Fuse TV and MTV2; A*Teens Dancing Queen, and Lost Prophets Burn Burn whose album peaked at #4 in the UK. In 2002, Kiely relaunched LOGIC focusing on advertising and network promotion spots. His work included spots for Direct TV and Discovery Channels American Chopper. It was around this time he forged a creative relationship with the agency, Viewpoint Creative, based in Boston and Los Angeles. Through them he helmed spots for an array of entertainment and lifestyle brands including HBO, Disney Channel, Hallmark and Mattel. He has also directed numerous co-branded spots for such brands as Kelloggs, Hidden Valley Ranch, Ritz Crackers, Pizza Hut, Honey Bunches of Oats, Cepacol, and Oreo. In addition, his keen sense of character and storytelling can also be found in the movie Stark Raving Mad (Columbia Tristar) starring Seann William Scott, which he conceived and associate produced. Adam Kerscher For more than 15 years Adam Kerscher has been working as a director of photography, shooting films with the likes of Sherilyn Fenn, Diane Ladd, Nicolette Sheridan, and Ray Winston. After working in features, his career expanded to include spots for companies such as Coors, Head &, Shoulders, Nokia, and Toyota, as well as music videos for artists ranging from Alien Ant Farm to Puddle of Mudd, Snoop, Perfect Circle and Jay Z. His accolades include several nominations for MTV and MVPA awards. With a rich photographic style, Kerscher made a smooth transition into the commercial world as a director cameraman, specializing in the fashion, beauty and lifestyle spots. His reel includes national spots for such brands as Oil of Olay, Pantene, Prilosec and Tide. Allan Vajda: Allan Vajda is a director/ cameraman who understands the need to combine outstanding cinematography and insightful screen direction with seamless technology to tell better stories. He began his career as an editor. His keen understanding of the post process and effects, as well as cinematography and aesthetic editing, have enabled him to deliver stunning work for his clients, specifically for cars, pretty pictures and real-people spots. He is also known for his detailed previz -- even in-progress viz -- to help make sure that everyone is on the same page before and during the shoot so there are no surprises in the edit room. Allan has won hundreds of regional and national awards for his work in advertising, and has just lensed a series of spots for TriStar Health System and RBC Bank, the US division of the Royal Bank of Canada.
