Leading Philippine broadcaster chooses Dalet Enterprise Edition for facility-wide digitalization of production workflows and media archives
Singapore – June 17, 2008
Digital Media Systems today announced that ABS-CBN Broadcast Corporation, the Philippine’s largest media and entertainment company, has chosen
Enterprise Edition for their facility-wide media asset management platform and archiving solution.
Professional Services worked closely with business partner Challenge Systems to design the enterprise workflow which preserves and digitalizes existing media assets while enabling ABS-CBN to add new media channels such as web and mobile TV; streamlining the entire ingest to archiving process. A completely file-based workflow, the
solution will integrate business and broadcast technologies from Masstech, IBM, Exanet, Snell & Wilcox, Apple and Avid to create a highly collaborative media production and distribution environment that optimizes and facilitates processes from scheduling to playout to archive. “The
system offered us an extensible architecture in which we could modernize our broadcast operation while integrating our existing back office processes and preserving our extensive library of content, comments, Raul Bulaong, Head of Technical Operations Division of ABS-CBN. “The end result is a very innovative media asset management and archiving workflow that allows us to efficiently repackage and redistribute content with optimum flexibility ensuring that the Philippine community can view, engage and interact with ABS-CBN programs via their favorite channel whether it be television, web, or mobile media devices. “We realized early on in the process that
Professional Services experience in designing and delivering enterprise workflows would be the key in making the ABS-CBN vision a reality. The team has gained tremendous knowledge and expertise in deploying
’s asset management and archiving technology for some of the most complex workflows - multi-platform, multi-format, and multi-vendor environments, comments Stephane Schlayen, Chief Operating Office of
. “The ABS-CBN installation is a comprehensive design and large-scale deployment – one that will demonstrate our capabilities, and position
as a leading media asset management and archiving solutions provider in the Asia - Pacific region." The
workflow will migrate existing ABS-CBN material – 21 years worth – from analog formats into a common DVCPRO 50. Low resolution proxies will be generated and remain online for search and retrieval from any Dalet workstation or via a web browser. Newly created ABS-CBN program material – soap operas, realty TV, magazine programs – will be shot using Panasonic P2 and Sony XDCAM cameras and stored in the
Content Catalog for seamless integration with production systems from Apple and Avid, playout servers and other multimedia platforms. The new digital workflow will enable ABS-CBN to distribute programs and content to a wide range of media with much greater ease and efficiency. Older material from the vast archives will be incrementally added to the system; all material will be incorporated in to the system within five years.
Professional Services in conjunction with business partner Challenge Systems, is managing the deployment of the entire media asset management and archiving infrastructure (150 seats). The project includes more than 200 days of best practice design, consulting, implementation, and training. “We are excited to be a partner in this ground breaking project as it really does deliver a unique integration of best of breed products, said Richard Padilla, President, Challenge Systems. “And working with
