CNN, FOX News, ABC And CBS Turn To Vizrt For Industry's Most Dynamic Election Graphics

Publish date:

Bergen, Norway, December 6, 2006 - As reflected in this year‘s U.S. Congressional mid-term elections, Vizrt real-time graphic solutions remain the graphic software of choice for time-critical, live productions such as election coverage. ABC, CBS, CNN and the Fox News Channel and many local stations throughout he country all relied on Vizrt software to create some of the most dynamic and creative graphics for their live, November 7th election results broadcasts.

CNN‘s election coverage included use of more than 15 Viz|Engines. CNN displayed nine state election races using output from one PC-based Viz|Engine renderer. The Viz|Engines were used to cover the results from numerous election races which were displayed side-by-side on a large Christie rear-screen projection system. Using a Vista Matrix controller, four Viz|Engines and an HD DDR were used to populate the screen. Each Viz|Engine is capable of displaying nine races down to a single election race output.

And CNN used an interactive touch screen to display what the “balance of power” would look like should Democrats, Republicans, or Independents win specific Senate and House of Representatives seats. CNN Anchor Jeff Greenfield touched specific states on a Smartboard touch screen (an NEC 61-inch plasma screen with DVI input from a dedicated Viz|Engine). A CNN producer worked within Viz|Content Pilot content management and control software from a PC to pre-select which states Jeff would highlight.

CBS, using more than 18 systems, created graphics in Vizrt‘s Viz|Artist 3.0, a 2D/3D real-time animation and visual effects design tool, which were rendered using a combination of the network‘s twelve Viz|Engines

Fox News Channel deployed many PC-based Viz|Engines to display its election results in SD. ABC utilized twelve PC-based more than 12 Viz|Engine graphic devices (both SD and HD 720P) for graphics on its live election coverage. The HD system provided HD DVI output to a large presentation screen, and the SD versions were configured for five on-air and five preview outputs.

“We hear repeatedly from our customers that they simply can‘t afford any glitches with broadcasts as important as elections,” said Isaac Hersly, President of Vizrt Americas. “Vizrt‘s combination of rendering speed and power, with its highly intuitive, intelligent design interface, makes it ideal for innovative graphics production when time is of the essence. The systems deliver real-time accuracy for high-profile events, as well as day-in, day-out 24-hour news coverage. We‘re thrilled with the level of confidence our customers continue to place in Vizrt.”
