Blackmagic Supports the Visuals for Diplo Music Video “So Long”

URSA Mini Pro 4.6K and Blackmagic RAW tech of choice for production.

EDM artist Diplo wanted a change of pace for his latest music video “So Long,” which was filmed heavily during the 2019 Stagecoach Festival in Indio, Calif., and where the production team led by frequent Diplo collaborator director Brandon Dermer had high-level access to festival grounds. To capture this different look, Dermer chose to shoot with Blackmagic Design’s URSA Mini Pro 4.6K camera, utilizing the Blackmagic RAW format.

Shooting documentary-style footage of the event, including live performances of Diplo and fellow music artist Cam, the camera operator using the URSA Mini Pro was tasked with grabbing “beauty shots” and footage of Stagecoach attendees, as well as concert footage. The music video’s cinematographer, Wojciech Kielar, praised the URSA Mini Pro’s dynamic range.

In post-production, the team also utilized Blackmagic’s DaVinci Resolve Studio to help adjust the saturation and color of the footage to give a “filmic style” to the music video.
