NAB 2009, Las Vegas, NV, USA – April 20, 2009 –Blackmagic Design Inc.
today announced two new audio Mini Converters with innovative features and technologies.
de-embeds audio from the SDI input out to either 4 channels of balanced analog audio or 8 channels of AES/EBU digital audio. Audio can be switched between analog and digital audio. SDI input video features a loop-thru output for connection to other SDI devices.
Mini Converter Audio to SDI allows embedding of audio into SDI video connections. SDI loops though, and 4 channels of balanced analog audio or 8 channels of AES/EBU digital audio can be embedded. Any audio channel can be selected, and enabled or disabled. Full sample rate converters are included on each AES/EBU audio input.
All Mini Converters are on display at NAB 2009 at the Blackmagic Design booth SL10820.
These new Mini Converters include extremely powerful features such as 3 Gb/s SDI technology, automatic switching between SD, HD and 3 Gb/s SDI formats, redundant SDI inputs, balanced analog and AES/EBU switchable audio, standard 1/4 inch jack audio connections and an international power supply with adapter plates for all international power sockets.
Mini Converter SDI to Audio and Audio to SDI models are perfect for multi channel audio use because they both include 4 channels of audio when switched to balanced analog audio, or 8 channels of audio when switched to AES/EBU digital audio modes.
“When we developed the new Mini Converters, we approached the problem from a design point of view to solve one of the biggest issues with converters, and that’s making them much more accessible to creative people who need to install them personally, said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design. “We made only one premium model of each conversion type, and called them simple descriptive names that everyone can understand. Then we packed them with innovative technology and features! We hope this helps make it easy for anyone to grow their post production studio as large as their creative talents make possible!
Redundant SDI inputs are included, which are perfect for live events where cables could be damaged by crowds. With the redundant SDI input, if the main video input is lost, the SDI inputs instantly switch over. Loop thru SDI allows video to daisy chain to other equipment such as converters for more channels of audio. 3 Gb/s SDI technology allows Mini Converters to switch between SD, HD and 3 Gb/s SDI video formats, and the built in USB connection allows upgrades to support new television formats in the future. Built in mini switches allow settings to be changed for audio types, audio de-embedding channels, video and more.
About Blackmagic Design Mini Converters
Unlike other converters on the market today, the Mini Converter family is designed to be easy to understand. All models have the maximum features available, so there’s a single great model for each type of conversion for dramatically increased simplicity in the model range. This eliminates the dozens of confusing models that products of this type typically suffer from.
There are now 8 models of Mini Converters: SDI to Analog, Analog to SDI, SDI to HDMI, HDMI to SDI for video conversion, and SDI to Audio, and Audio to SDI for audio conversion and Mini Converter Optical Fiber. All these models are priced at US$495. Mini Converter Sync Generator is a black burst and tri-sync generator model priced at US$295.
