HOLLYWOOD—The Hollywood Post Alliance will host the 14th Annual HPA Technology Retreat February 19th – 22nd at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage, California. The 3-day HPA Technology Retreat, including the pre-retreat sessions, is unlike other trade events and sells out every year. It is not a sales or marketing show, rather it is an unadulterated forum for presenting the latest advances in post production technology. As a result, it attracts an elite group of leading technologists from across the country and the world representing post production houses, broadcast companies and manufacturers.
“There is no marketing, no hype, notes HPA President Leon Silverman. “It’s real technologies, real information, real products and people who know things that you don’t. You’ll walk away with ideas that you can put to use in your business and new relationships you wouldn’t have made if you did not attend this conference. Among the featured speakers will be Charles Poynton, author and independent contractor specializing in the engineering of digital color imaging systems, will give a talk on the physics of light measurement and its importance to broadcast television, digital cinema and other forms of media display. Other highlights include a half-day session, hosted by the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC), exploring a variety of issues affecting audio post production including loudness and lip sync. Martin Euredjian, founder and CEO of eCinema Systems, will review the newest liquid crystal display technologies and how they are being applied in film and broadcast production. Wednesday’s program will include a “supersession on 3D Post examining the challenges for post production service providers posed by the growing number of Hollywood films being produced in stereoscopic 3D. The session will include a panel of 3D visionaries and a review of viable business models for companies servicing 3D. Each day’s program will also include a Roundtable Breakfast, guaranteed to attract a standing room only crowd. Registration and a complete program are available on the HPA’s website at
