programs, has composed a bold, driving musical theme for

Erin Burnett OutFront

, the cable news network's newest offering. The weeknight news show airs at 7 p.m. EST. The composition is another in a long series created by Stephen Arnold Music for CNN and its associated cable outlets, including CNN Headline News and CNN International. "Our relationship with CNN gives us many opportunities to create memorable sonic brands," says Stephen Arnold, president of the award-winning music production company. "But OutFront was especially engaging because the fresh nature of the show and its host called for something truly unusual and compelling." Arnold notes that CNN lured Burnett to the network from

, envisioning a personality-driven news program that stood out from the crowd. The right theme music would subtly underline that distinctive quality. The main theme is built around an indelible five-note signature and incorporates bold, rhythmic guitars, driving bass and punchy drums. The result is a strong, modern sound that suggests courage and boldness. A touch of strings brings it all together, adding credibility and depth. The package includes several variations arranged to work in a variety of situations, including a more somber version. All incorporate the memorable five-note melody, and all underscore the personality of the show, which is embodied in the title OutFront. "The producers of OutFront asked for music that would set the show apart, something different from the traditional orchestral themes normally associated with television news," says Chad Cook, vice president Creative Services at Stephen Arnold Music. "They wanted a more indie sound that connects with today's viewers without sounding contrived or over produced. That's the kind of challenge we relish at Stephen Arnold Music."
