KSPS-TV Selects Three Fujinon Studio Lenses For Newly Renovated HD Facility

Publish date:

WAYNE, NJ, August 5, 2008 — KSPS-TV the flagship PBS station of the Inland Pacific Northwest, owned and operated by Spokane Public Schools, recently purchased three XA22X7BES compact HD Studio lenses for use in its HD production studio in Spokane, Washington. The facility upgrade also included three Sony HDC 1400 HD cameras. KSPS produces programs and series for local and national public television distribution from this facility, which opened earlier this year. The station replaced equipment that had been in use at the studio for nearly twenty years. KSPS Director of Engineering, Bob Wyatt said the purchase is a solid investment that will dramatically improve image quality. “When you consider the age of our equipment prior to our upgrade, this was a massive leap for us in terms of quality, Wyatt said. KSPS is continuing their upgrade efforts and will wrap up changes to their audio system shortly. The Fujinon XA22X7BES lenses are being used to shoot several KSPS series in HD. One program is “Health Matters: Television for Life, a monthly series centered around health issues. Another show is called “Northwest Profiles, a program profiling the four states and two Canadian provinces within the KSPS viewership. Wyatt reported that the response to the lenses has been overwhelmingly positive. “Our camera operators tell me one of their favorite features are the zoom and focus controls. The servos allow you to pick a shot you like, set it, and as you are doing other shots, you can go back to that same zoom point, with just a push of a button. We’re very pleased with the Focus Breathing Compensation technology too, which has greatly reduced the breathing issues we encounter when changing focus. The XA22X7BES comes standard with a digital control technology that addresses breathing issues. It enables the angular field of view to remain constant by synchronizing the zoom movement to the focus movement, thus reducing image size change when focusing.
