Director John Osborne Pulls Up a Soapbox for Converse

The Brief:

Anonymous Content's newest addition, John Osborne directs this unconventional campaign for the subversive cultural phenomenon that surrounds Converse. In these ads we see clips from a dramatic soap opera re-run, a singing superstar peddling a product, and a tearful phone-in pageant winner. The images take a backseat to the scrolling messages that appear across the screen. Non-conformists can take comfort knowing they are not alone as the words educate us about our tendency for mindless television watching, acceptance of marketing ploys, and questioning our commitment for voting in superfluous contests that have no democratic significance to our sheltered lives. The famously recognized shoe never appears in the ads. Instead, the messages that Converse presents becomes the focus that one can align themselves with by donning a pair of chucks.

About John Osborne

John Osborne ambitiously pushes traditional boundaries to keep ahead of the constantly evolving advertising industry. He was been chosen to be part of the Shots Magazine 2007 New Directors DVD. His work has included spots for V2 Vodka's Love and War campaign and extensive work for Converse, including three spots for the company's Disruption campaign. Originally a still photographer, John has been a full-time director since 2006. Osborne holds a B.F.A. in film and a bachelor's in literature, both from Boston College.
