Digital Vision

, a leading developer of advanced digital media applications for film and video, was honoured with an Award for Engineering Excellence from the Hollywood Post Alliance (HPA), on October 7.

The company‘s Digital Vision Optics (DVO) image processing software was one of just three products to receive the first-time award, selected by a jury of peers in the Hollywood community - engineers from post-production facilities, studios, technology organizations and guilds, and technical journalists from the post-production trade press. The DVO was selected from a large field of technologies and products in recognition of offering “a substantially beneficial process, product, or workflow in the post-production process that enables a significant step forward for the industry.”

DVO is a line of resolution-independent software for the DI space that runs on general purpose computing platforms. It is based on algorithms from the company‘s popular DVNR hardware systems and includes DVO Grain, DVO Dust, DVO Aperture, and DVO Alias. DVO utilizes project metadata and timelines from the Nucoda platform and are available as an option to all of the company‘s Nucoda products, including Data Conform, Film Cutter and Film Master.

Phil Mendelson, Chair of the HPA Engineering Awards SubComittee and CTO of Ascent Media Creative Services noted, "The inaugural winners of the HPA Engineering Awards illustrate so clearly the impressive level of innovation, excellence, and talent that exist in our post production community today. There were high quality submissions which was inspiring for all of us involved in the launch of the HPA Awards. The stringent judging and intense and impressive competition among the entrants make these first Engineering Excellence Awards very meaningful in our community. Our hats are off to the winners."

Digital Vision President Robert Ekstrom, said, “When we developed the DVO line, our goal was precisely to bring the high-quality image processing technology of our DVNR system that is so widely used by the post industry, to digital intermediate projects requiring a software based solution. Confirmation that we have achieved this goal - coming from the Hollywood community itself - is a great honour.”
