Christie Returns as Sponsor of the LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph, June 12 - 14

Publish date:

CYPRESS, CA – (June 12, 2008) – Christie, a global leader in visual solutions for business, entertainment and industry, announced its continued sponsorship of the LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph, June 12-14, in Charlottesville, Virginia. Described as “three days of peace, love and photography, the increasingly popular event will highlight works of legendary photographers, emerging artists, and all the best in photography from the previous year. It is unique in that both aspiring photographers and world-renowned photojournalists will join forces to celebrate their craft. "LOOK3 is for the community of photography. The presentation of the image is everything to us," said Michael “Nick Nichols, founder and co-executive director of the festival. "We project images on the sides of buildings, in old factories, in historic theaters – we basically turn the downtown into a living image. We couldn't even consider this without Christie projectors – Christie makes it happen for us." This year’s festival will feature the Christie Roadster S+20K DLP® projector, a powerhouse for rental/staging with 20,000 ANSI lumens and SXGA+ resolution. Christie is also providing the Christie HD405 single-chip DLP projector with full 1080 HD resolution for highest image detailing. The festival offers exhibitions, workshops, interviews, outdoor screenings, and special events designed to bring together photographers and enthusiasts from around the world in an interactive environment that fosters a sharing of ideas and insights. Nichols, a National Geographic photographer and editor at large, conceived the event after twenty years of hosting an informal gathering of photographers in his own backyard. “Christie has been a long-time supporter of photography as an art form, working with the best and brightest to bring to the public the greatest visual experiences possible, he said. “We look to Christie to provide state-of-the-art projectors that help our artists push the envelope of creativity. Their projectors deliver exceptionally sharp images to ensure that every artist’s vision shines through with remarkable clarity. Every evening, the year’s best images from more than 50 international newspapers and magazines, including National Geographic, The New York Times and Smithsonian, will light up storefront windows and outdoor walls along the Downtown Mall in historic downtown Charlottesville. The Christie Roadster S+20K will power the main screen on the side of the largest building, located in the center courtyard. The Christie HD405 will project images onto storefront windows in the courtyard. “The LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph is redefining the visual arts and how they are brought to the public, observed Gary Fuller, vice president of Business Products for Christie. “Christie is committed to the use of digital projection technology to transform the visual arts and how artists present their work. We are dedicated to supporting groundbreaking events like the Festival of the Photograph to provide artists with the highest quality images and ultimate flexibility. We congratulate all artists and participants, and are proud to once again be part of the festival and its exhibitions. This year’s festival lineup will include gallery exhibitions and interviews with celebrated photographers Mary Ellen Mark, Joel-Peter Witkin, and James Nachtwey. The festival will also include “Shots, a multi-media showcase of exceptional new works by a selection of photographers from around the world. The presentation transforms an abandoned warehouse into a dramatic canvas for the evening with projected images and audience. The festival’s grand finale – “Works – will be an outdoor showcase of images by 20 distinguished photographers, projected onto a giant screen in a covered concert venue. Christie is also supporting its partner, Outdoor Movies, by supplying the projector for the festival. Outdoor Movies is responsible for most of the video and large-venue support for Christie. Founding partners and festival supporters are National Geographic Magazine and Apple. The festival’s outstanding program for June 2008 continues to grow, with new additions recently announced. On June 13, Gerd Ludwig will present photographs from his project "New Work from Russia" at the Paramount Theater and on June 12, David Alan Harvey presents "Off for a Family Drive." The all-new LOOK3 Theater will screen a dynamic multimedia program from contributors including Media Storm, Women Photojournalists of Washington, and the New York Times. Also, Sam Abell and Julie Blackmon share the stage with curators Leah Ben-David Val and Darius Himes to pay tribute to innovative collaborations between photographers and publishers in our BOOKS exhibition. Complete information is available at
