Ascent Media Purchases First Set of New DVO Packages from Digital Vision

Stockholm, Sweden – 14 April, 2008 – Digital Vision, the premier supplier of picture enhancement systems for film and television post-production, announced today that London based Ascent Media has become the first customer for its new DVO Enhance and DVO Restore packages. The suites of products based on Digital Vision’s award winning image processing software are being launched at NAB 2008 and were purchased by Ascent Media’s team after beta-testing the products.

The new DVO packs will be central to Ascent Media UK’s non linear file based restoration workflow to address the growing need for highest quality processing for film and television restoration and repurposing.

Ascent Media have a long relationship with Digital Vision using the DVNR systems. DVO builds on and enhances the DVNR’s motion compensated image processing techniques and provides Ascent Media with a complete resolution independent data restoration and repurposing solution.

Chris Watson, Technical Manager, Ascent Media comments; “From a single DVO workstation we are able to do all the traditional activities such as automatic and manual dust-busting, vertical scratch removal, 3 cell alignment and stabilisation but also grain management, detail enhancement and alias removal.

The four new restoration tools that are part of the DVO Restore suite include:
• DVO Steady –The Steady tool, available at NAB, helps eliminate film weave, enhancing unsteady pictures originating from film scanning or camera shakes during capture. It uses an automatic two-pass solution to provide better separation between the unwanted instability and the pan/tilt movements from the original capture.
• DVO Print Align – This tool, also available at NAB, uses a fully automatic process to align RGB separation prints, even if the offset varies over time.
• DVO Scratch – Vertical scratch removal, planned for availability in Q3 2008, handles vertical/continuous scratches typically missed by dust and dirt removers. The process is fully automatic with an advanced detection and a fill-in result which is far superior to the normal process of hiding the defect using information from both sides of the scratch.
• DVO Flicker– This tool removes random flicker and variations in brightness from sequences to produce a uniform exposure across an entire scene. DVO flicker is planned for availability in Q4 2008.

“Ascent Media is one of the most recognised names in the industry and one of the reasons for this is their desire to use the best technology to create the best look, comments Digital Vision COO and President, Simon Cuff. “We are therefore delighted that after beta-testing the new tools they have decided to purchase them and make them a crucial part of their workflow.
