Illustrator Paul Blow and animator Kee Koo collaborated to create this 3 1/2-minute short documentary about the beginnings of Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi. Early on in his life, Iommi lost two fingers during a welding accident, but was inspired by the story of also-maimed guitarist Django Reinhardt to continue playing.
Says Blow, “The project started with a script with Tony narrating his early experiences which I used to create a storyboard. I was given creative freedom which proved excellent, as most of my suggestions were included. So by the end we had around 50 frames from which I then produced final art.”
The short is part of VH!’s The Complete History of Heavy Metal series. Watch below.
