January's Midnight Moment in Times Square will come courtesy of pioneering video artist Pipilotti Rist, in partnership with her current retrospective at the New Museum, Pipilotti Rist: Pixel Forest.

Every night in January from 11:57 PM to midnight, the billboards of Times Square will be taken over by Rist's own face from her work Open my Glade (Flatten) as she flattens her features against a pane of glass as if to break through. Explains the Times Square Arts site, "Her features humorously distorted, her makeup smeared, Rist transgresses expectations for women in media while also questioning the invisible boundaries placed on women and their history, experiences, pains and wishes in ways that resonate just as much in 2017 as they did in 2000."
