Professional skateboarder turned filmmaker Stacy Peralta has recouped the $500,000 budget of his latest documentary, Bones Brigade: An Autobiography, weeks before it's hit theater screens. How? By trying a new DIY distribution plan, in association with Film Sales Co. and Topspin Media, that leverages social media and the film's core fan base and features a unique merchandising campaign.
Says Peralta, "I do believe we have finally crossed a threshold — we've found a way to do this. It's not applicable for every film. But it's applicable for many films. It's giving small fry like me a chance."
