MTV’s new sitcom Mary + Jane is a sitcom about two young Los Angeles women running a successful weed-delivering business while also trying to navigate their love lives. To shoot it, cinematographer Charles Papert chose the Panasonic VariCam 35 and shot a exterior night tests.
“We were under various types of street lights for that test and I looked really closely at faces. I thought it was amazing how the camera was handling all these different color temps,” he tells Medium. “We were able to do a very minor overall correction and bring the scene to a really clean looking place. The color science in the VariCam was better than a lot of the cameras I’ve worked with where you really have to do a lot of work in color to get the skin tones exactly where you want them.”
