‘Oasis: Supersonic’ Director Mat Whitecross Artificially Creates a Conversation Between the Gallagher Brothers

"By asking the same questions and bringing the answers back to each other, we could artificially create this conversation that doesn't exist," Whitecross explains. "You can't talk about emotions in front of your brother."

Director Mat Whitecross examines the famously contentious relationship between brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher in his new documentary Oasis: Supersonic. But although he conducted over 20 hours of interviews with each of the brothers, they never appeared together nor do they appear in the film in the present day at all. Whitecross uses the interviews as voiceover over archival footage of the band’s meteoric rise to success in the mid 1990s.

“By asking the same questions and bringing the answers back to each other, we could artificially create this conversation that doesn’t exist,” Whitecross tells IndieWire about the two separate interviews. “You can’t talk about emotions in front of your brother.”

Oasis: Supersonic‘s theatrical release has been extended to run for a whole week, starting on October 26th. It is also being released on iTunes and VOD today, Friday, October 28th.
