Why ‘Nerdland’ Feels Oddly More Real as an Animated Feature

"I think you can make the characters that much more absurd [as an animation], and you buy it," director Chris Prynoski says.

R-rated animated film Nerdland tells the story of an aspiring screenwriter and actor who will do just about anything to become famous and, in the process, paints a darkly comedic picture of Hollywood.

“I think you can make the characters that much more absurd [as an animation], and you buy it,” director Chris Prynoski tells Inverse. “It almost feels almost oddly more real as a cartoon than live-action.”
