HBO’s new sci-fi series Westworld depicts the ultimate in artificial intelligence technology. But in an ironic twist, creators Jonathan and Lisa Joy Nolan chose to eschew digital cinematography and shoot the show on film.
“This is a Western about Westerns – a meta-Western,” Jonathan Nolan tells ICG Magazine. “It’s [park creator] Dr. Ford’s distillation of all of the movie westerns he loved when he was a kid. And the only way to shoot that is on film.”
