Visual Effects Evolve for ‘Orphan Black’

Following a woman (played by Tatiana Maslany) who is thrust into an international conspiracy that results in her meeting and working with her various clones, the BBC America series Orphan Black relies on a considerable amount of visual effects innovation. Intelligent Creatures is responsible for effects that show the clones and the main character’s interactions with them in the show’s third season, which premieres in April.

Tasked with going beyond the standard “twinning” effect, but doing so within a television budget, the effects team relies on Blackmagic Design Fusion. “From ingesting footage to compositing and dailies, to client review and final delivery, every frame runs through Fusion,” says Eric Doiron, Intelligent Creatures VFX supervisor. “We have been able to maintain a consistent viewing experience for our clients, from on-set monitoring to editorial, to visual effects and final grading.”
