VidCon, an annual convention for those in the business of online video creation and distribution, attracted about 26,000 attendees and internet celebrities to the Anaheim Convention Center in June 2016. With the conference’s subject matter in mind, show organizers placed an emphasis on implementing a solid and reliable streaming video workflow for the additional tens of thousands of viewers watching live streams of the event on YouTube. VidCon producers brought in Teradek’s Cube 655 to meet the challenges of the live streaming operation.
Models in Teradek’s Cube family of H.264 encoders offer dual HDMI and SDI inputs and can stream up to 10 Mb/s. Users can choose which social media destination to stream to, whether it be Facebook Live, Periscope or, as in the case of VidCon, YouTube Live—and with a subscription to Teradek CORE, users can stream to multiple destinations simultaneously.
VidCon producers placed Teradek Cubes at each event stage. The Cubes sent broadcast-quality encoded video of conference panels via the convention center’s IP network to decoders in the production room. Video streams were managed with CORE’s simple drag-and-drop interface and sent to multiple streaming destinations.
As live streams continue to grow in popularity and demand for digital media rises, VidCon can publish its events with Teradek Cube with the confidence that its streams will reach audiences problem-free.
