Viceland Idents Intrigue with Deceptively Simple But Bold Design

Vice’s new television network Viceland comes with its own idents which are both bold and simplistic. The text-heavy idents use a black Helvetica Bold font on a white background, allowing the words themselves to provoke and intrigue.

“The Viceland brand is equal parts exhibition catalogue and street flyer,” agency Gretel says. “Craigslist and couture; generic and refined. It is simultaneously the elevated ‘high’ and vernacular ‘low.’ A translation of the VICE sensibility, it’s blunt and raw. An exposed structure, a functional language free of decoration, artifice and veneer.”
