Connected Data, the creator of the Drobo line of smart storage solutions, announces the Drobo Mini 8 TB bundle, which features four hot-swappable 2.5” drive bays preloaded with four Samsung Spinpoint M9T 2 TB drives. Built on BeyondRAID technology, Drobo Mini protects data without user intervention, even in the event of multiple drive failures. If a drive does fail, the Mini automatically repairs itself and returns to a protected state while providing full access to all data. New drives can be added or swapped on-the-fly with zero downtime. Drobo Mini connects via Thunderbolt or USB 3.0 and weighs 3 lb. The Drobo Mini 8 TB bundle is available for $999.
HERO4 Black captures cinema-quality 4K video at 30 fps, 2.7K video at 50 fps and 1080p video at 120 fps, virtually eliminating rolling shutter in most scenarios while allowing for slow motion effects. HERO4 Black features an entirely redesigned audio system that captures high fidelity sound with double the dynamic range of previous models. Additional enhancements include improved image quality, improved low-light performance, highlight moment tagging and an improved user interface that allows for easier discoverability and access to key features and controls. MSRP of HERO4 Black is $499.
HERO4 is also available in a Silver edition ($399), which includes a touch display but does not incorporate all of the higher performance video capture modes. The HERO4 models began shipping in October.
This four-in-one camera rig may be configured into a shoulder rig, monopod (up to 4’8”), stabilizer or high hat, tool free, without removing the camera from the system’s baseplate. A portable multimedia studio, NewTek’s TriCaster Mini allows users to produce and live stream presentations, publishing the videos to social media or uploading to web sites from any location with an Internet connection. With the Mini, users can capture and mix multiple live video camera angles with graphics, video clips, audio, titles and special effects. The roughly 10 lb. system is small enough to fit in a backpack and can be set up in about five minutes. TriCaster Mini HD-4i ($7,995) includes an integrated and configurable video screen and system storage capable of recording approximately 45 hours of footage. Another version, TriCaster Mini HD-4 ($5,995), is available with system storage capable of recording approximately 15 hours of footage and without the integrated display screen.
An update of the DR-60D, the DR-60DmkII is a portable four-channel, solid-state recorder designed for the needs of DSLR filmmakers. The streamlined design fits neatly under a DSLR camera rig. The upgraded HDDA microphone preamps provide up to 64dB of gain, capturing every nuance of a performance. Up to four channels at a time can be recorded to the internal SD card, at up to 96kHz/24-bit WAV file resolution. Dual record mode captures a safety track so there’s a backup in case of overload. Two of the mic inputs utilize locking XLR connectors with 48V phantom power; the other two use an 1/8” stereo connector for wireless and lavalier microphones. The DR-60DmkII is available for $200.
