Reed Morano Chooses the Bleak but Affecting ‘Meadowland’ for Her Directorial Debut

Cinematographer turned director Reed Morano talks to Variety about her directorial debut, Meadowland–about a couple (Olivia Wilde and Luke Wilson)–forced to deal with the unthinkable after their son is abducted.

“I wanted to do something that was special — not necessarily a guaranteed commercial success, but at least something I could do well. You only get to come out of the gate once,” she says of choosing the script for her debut. “The script was bleak, with so many things going against it. They told me, ‘You should do a comedy.’ But I wanted to make something that really affects people.”
