MTh Keeps Capital Cities ‘Safe and Sound’

Directed by MTh’s Grady Hall and featuring visual effects and postproduction from Mirada, the music video for Capital Cities’ “Safe and Sound” is a vibrant, celebratory mash-up of dance styles from the past century. “We wanted to cover every decade of dance,” the director explains, “but I think we might need a sequel to do it.”

Hall and Mirada creative director Jonathan Wu guided a team of compositors through more than 80 visual effects shots for the video, with work including head replacements, animations, transformations and the integration of stock footage. Retro-inspired effects range from black and white silent film influences to psychedelia.
